In 1950, Uruguay won the soccer World Cup when their national team unexpectedly defeated the host, Brazil, in the championship game. This even is still considered an extraordinary achievement that will forever mark the social and political lives of both countries. Free film showing at the Fitchburg Historical Society, presented in collaboration with the Committee of Neighbors (Comite de Vecinos de Fitchburg) and the Conulate General of Uruguay in New York.

 

Rotary Club of Fitchburg: 100th anniversary gala. Friday, June 15, 2018 at 6 p.m., tickets $50. Location: Oak Hill Country Club.

Celebrate 100 years of this local club, which has fun and develops leadership by organizing projects to support education, literacy, public health, and quality of life in Fitchburg. Open to non-members of Rotary Club, with advance ticket purchase.

 

Wallace exhibition: “A Generation on Wheels: Iver Johnson and the Early Days of Sports”

Monday, June 18 – Wednesday, August 22, 2018  Mondays – Wednesdays, with extra exhibition hours: Sunday, July 1, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Tuesday, July 3, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Our annual exhibition of Iver Johnson bicycles, made in Fitchburg, returns. This year we will look at the bicycling fad of the 1890’s and the early years of leisure sports for both men and women.
