3.29.2020 TDD 5K, Kids Fun Run

Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 7 AM – 1 PM

Scheduled for Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Worcester State University in Worcester, MA, the event will include an official 5K race, a 1K fun run, and a virtual 5K race beginning at 10:30am (9:45 AM: Kids Fun Run START).

There will be kids activities and other race day festivities. The TDD 5K is a memorial named for the Elaine & Don Vescio's triplets, Tyrus, Dante, and Daniel, who wereborn prematurely and live on in our memories. The purpose of the TDD 5K is to remember all the babies who left this world too soon, and to celebrate their lives while doing something enjoyable--running or walking a 5K or a 1K fun run.

Funds raised from the TDD 5K will go towards upgrading equipment, amenities, accommodations and services at the UMass Memorial NICU. The Vescio Family and UMass Memorial NICU are working closely together to determine the most beneficial use of the funds for the patients, while a portion of the proceeds will support families who experience the death of their child in the NICU. Since 1974, the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center has cared for over 20,000 of the region’s smallest and sickest newborns in a family-oriented environment.

Located on the Memorial Campus and part of the comprehensive Children’s Medical Center, the NICU is nationally recognized for its quality care. UMass Memorial has the only Level III NICU in Central Massachusetts, as well as the only high-risk obstetrical service. A national success story, annually the NICU admits about 650 low birth-weight and high-risk infants who receive care in a 49-bed NICU, a showcase of family-centered care and design.

Macaroni Kid Worcester is a supporting sponsor of this wonderful community event!

4.26.2020 2020 Lt. James “Jay” Lyons Memorial 5K Road Race

Sunday, April 26, 2020 at 2 PM – 3 PM

551 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA 01602-2722, United States

2020 Jay Lyons 5k - Register now!
https://racewire.com/register.php?id=11395

Sunday April 26th, Race Day, 12:30 p.m. to start of the 5k
Race Start: 2:00 pm
Location: 551 Pleasant St. Worcester, MA

Our Story: On December 3rd, 1999, Jay and five of his fellow firefighters gave the ultimate sacrifice when they perished in the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse fire. In Jay’s memory, his high school classmates (Doherty High, 1983) have established a scholarship fund through the Greater Worcester Community Foundation. Established in January 2001, the Lt. James “Jay” Lyons Memorial Road Race has raised more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for sole purpose of funding the Jay Lyons Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a Doherty High senior at graduation and is made available to the recipient in each of the four college years. For example, since 2005, the scholarship has been utilized by four college students every year.

The Jay Lyons Road Race is held every April as the major fundraiser for the scholarship.
Also, it is an opportunity to gather and honor Jay. In so doing, we are able to give back to the community that Jay served so faithfully.
